ICMR Post Doctoral Fellowship (ICMR-PDF) Scheme

The ICMR-PDF scheme is designed to provide high-quality research opportunities to fresh Ph.D./MD/MS holders in cutting-edge areas such as basic science, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and reproductive health. The fellowship aims to support 50 candidates annually for research at ICMR Institutes/Centers.

Tenure and Benefits:

• Tenure: 2 years, extendable by 1 more year based on performance.
• Fellowship: ₹65,000 per month + House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) as per Government of India rules.
• Contingency Grant: ₹3,00,000 per annum, with 25% available for national travel related to the research work.
• Additional Benefits: Medical benefits, leave as per ICMR rules, and possible accommodation at ICMR Institutes/Centers.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Nationality: Indian nationals only.
• Qualifications: Fresh Ph.D./MD/MS holders within three years of degree completion or those with provisional degrees.
• Research Continuation: Proposed post-doctoral research should be a continuation of the Ph.D. or MD/MS research work.
• Age Limit: Maximum 32 years (relaxable up to 5 years for SC/ST/OBC/PH and women candidates). An additional relaxation of up to 3 years may be granted for deserving candidates based on prior work, publications, and recommendations.
• Mentorship: The PDF Guide should have a minimum designation of Scientist-C grade. Postgraduate medical students can undertake the PDF in MCI-recognized postgraduate medical colleges with a minimum of three batches of graduates.

Application Process:

• Submission: Applications must be submitted offline by 30th June or 31st December each year.
• Procedure:
  • Download and complete the application form from the ICMR website.
  • Attach self-attested copies of required documents and the Plagiarism check report.

• Important Notes:
  • Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  • Candidates should contact the Director/Officer-in-Charge of the ICMR Institute/Centre of interest.
  • Applications without the recommendation of the sponsoring ICMR Institutes/Centres will not be considered.

Selection Process:

• Criteria: Based on publications, citations, and impact factors.
• Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a Selection Committee at ICMR Headquarters, New Delhi. Candidates from abroad may be considered in absentia if eligible and suitable.

6. One-page summary of Ph.D. thesis
7. Attested copies of acceptance letters for papers accepted for publication
8. Detailed research proposal
9. Testimonials from two referees (one should be the Ph.D. Guide)
10. Plagiarism Check Report verified by ICMR-RIO
